Abstract : Superior strength, ductility, and durability are the key characteristics of Ultra High Performance Concrete. They enable to design and build filigree and sustainable structures for many different kinds of application including long span bridges and high rise buildings. As a basis for safe and economic design, intensive research has been conducted. This paper describes selected results of basic research projects as well as examples of recent outstanding applications of UHPC for innovative structures. With regard to research, a special coordinated nationwide research programme has recently been finished in Germany, covering aspects of material development, ductility, sustainability, and development of models for structural design purposes.
