Abstract : There are a number of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods available for concrete foundation piles, both driven and cast-in-place (like bored piles, continuous flying auger, caissons, etc.). The most widely used are the low and high strain, based on the propagation of a stress-wave, the cross-hole sonic logging, and the thermal integrity profiling. Choosing the right kind of NDT method is essential to the success of the investigation. This paper briefly describes the aforementioned NDT methods, emphasizing their advantages and disadvantages. A summary table is presented, listing the type of tests, their main uses, their advantages and their limitations or disadvantages.
