Abstract :  Based on the recent technology of very high performance concrete (VHPC), Italcementi Group has developed new classes of highly aesthetic materials allowing the industrial manufacturing of manufacts destined to high quality, architectural and design purposes and landscaping. In particular, two main types of cement-based materials are proposed, possessing different strength and rheological performance: - i. design EFFIX DESIGN (CREA and ARCA) - i. design BIODYNAMIC. These products are also available in the photocatalytic version (i.active). This paper describes the main properties and peculiarities of these products and shows some examples of its applications. Effix Design products are very high-strength cement-based mortars possessing a good surface finishing and they are commercially available for several years. The number of applications is ever and ever increasing in terms of solutions and volumes. A more recent material possessing high flowability and high quality surface has been developed and used for the first time for the construction of external skin of Italian Pavilion for Expo 2015 (Universal Exhibition) in Milan, Italy. Only with the use of a such material (a photocatalytic mortar whose name is i.active Biodynamic) the complexity of the façade of this building has been successfully solved, so that the precasting technology has reached the highest level of quality and technical solutions.
