Abstract : When a concrete structure is repaired with concrete, parent and repair concrete form a bonding at the interface which is the weakest phase of the composite member. Thus even if the grade of repair concrete is increased, the composite structure fails at the interface and the high grade of repair concrete go waste. In the present paper, concrete samples of M20 grade parent concrete is interfaced with SCC of M 20, M 25, M 30 and M 35 grade. Composite specimens, after 28 days curing, have been tested under direct compression, splitting tension and slant shear to evaluate bond strength. Based on the experiments conducted, it is found that the strength of composite cylinder specimen in direct compression and in splitting tension keeping the interface vertical does not increase when the difference in grade between the parent and repair concrete is more than 10 N/mm2. On the other hand, when composite cylinder specimens are subjected to splitting tension test keeping the interface horizontal or tested in slant shear, the strength increases with the increase in the grade of repair concrete. No threshold value was found beyond which no increase in strength takes place.
