Abstract : Development of self-compacting concrete (SCC) has been of good interest to the research community, due to the ease of adoption and the significant savings in compaction at the congested reinforcement locations. However use of different pozzolonic admixture has become quite common in nowadays in the development of SCCs. Among all Metakaolin (MK) has significant potential for the production of high-strength and high-performance self-compacting concretes, if properly designed. Determining the durability properties of high strength SCC is highly relevant due to the demands imposed by the concrete industry. Concrete durability mainly depends on the transport behaviour and the pore structure interaction of the concrete. Here transport behaviour means the easiness of fluid to penetrate through the concrete from its surrounding service environment. The transport process of fluids occurs in concrete by different modes such as absorption, diffusion and permeation. The present investigation evaluates the compressive strength, water permeability, water absorption and chloride permeability of 80, 100 and 120 MPa concretes developed by various replacement level of MK, and was compared with the normal vibrated concretes having same strength grade. The results show that MK in SCCs offers very good resistance in terms of enhancing the permeation properties of concretes.
