Abstract : The disposition of the generating stations, substations and load centers in the country have made the transmission line networks to pass through open lands or dense forests with extreme climatic conditions like coastal and industrial areas resulting in deterioration of transmission line tower foundation concrete and corrosion of transmission line tower stub angle. Such distress not only endangers the safety of the towers but also result in interruption of power supply in the event of failure. Durability aspects like deterioration of stub concrete, corrosion at the stub angle / coping concrete interface, corrosion of embedded parts by galvanic corrosion and corrosion due to stray current mechanism have been discussed. Articles dealing with the durability aspects of transmission line tower foundations have been reviewed. Methodologies to enhance durability of existing and new transmission line tower foundations have been presented based on the review.
