Abstract : This paper describes the situation of fly ash usage and the concept of total management for efficient use in Thailand. Generally, fly ash in Thailand has high CaO content, high alkali content but low silica content and LOI while fineness was generally low. The consumption of fly ash in Thailand increases significantly since 1997 until almost all were consumed. However, due to various reasons, there have been fly ash left unused in recent years. The measures to make efficient use offly ash have been planned and implemented during recent years. Researches show that fly ash with free lime as high as 4.51% can be used in concrete without problems. Dumped fly ash, if low in CaO content, can be applied without any adverse effect on concrete. A ternary binder system with limestone powder was proposed for solving drawbacks of fly ash concrete. Finally, a total management scheme for effective use of fly ashes in Thailand is presented.
