Abstract : The alkali activation of fly ash has become an important area of research due to the potential to use fly ash to synthesize environmentally friendly cementitious construction materials. Previous studies have highlighted a number of factors as being important for the activation of fly ash, with activator modulus and Na2O dosage being identified as having the most significant impact upon the compressive strength. To investigate these effects fly ash collected from five different power stations in Australia have been investigated using a range of activator modulus. Further, chemical compositions of each fly ash along with the sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solution have been considered in order to optimize the mix ratio and compressive strength.
