Abstract :  High Strength Concrete (HSC) has been in vogue in construction and concrete industry across the world for various applications before the concept of High Performance Concrete (HPC) took over. The performance criterion for HPC has been achieved mainly with the addition of mineral admixtures /additives and use of chemical admixtures. In addition to Mineral admixtures like Fly Ash and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS), various micro fine mineral additives like Silica Fume, Metakaolin, Microfine Slag etc. are being used to achieve the performance requirements of HPC. The study reports the effect of some unconventional microfine additives like microfine slag, microfine fly ash and microfine inert filler as additive in high strength cement mortar, on the durability properties of cement mortar. Durability in terms of chloride ion migration co-efficient and chloride ion permeability has been studied in detail. Silica fume demonstrates better performance against chloride ion resistance as compared to other mineral additives.
