Abstract : The building sector is growing at a rapid speed in India. The construction material mainly concrete is being used extensively for all infrastructure projects in India. The paper brings out the present state of concrete structures & major areas where improvement is needed during its construction & service life stage for sustainable development in India. The specific areas where special attention needs to be given is identified as, quality assurance & improvement in construction technology, utilization of new materials with high-tech improvisation and assessment of structure including use of new materials for maintaining the structures.
