Abstract : The emphasis for the highway industry in the country is now centered on maintenance, rehabilitation, and conserving the existing road network spread in the form of Expressways, National Highways, State Highways, etc. Bridges are an important component of the highway system and, in part, because of their conservative design, bridges have been allowed to dilapidate over many years because of deferred maintenance and repairs.
