Abstract : The Kunnandar Koil temple is located in Kiranur, Pudhukottai district, Tamil Nadu. It has been declared as a monument of national importance. It is a cave temple of the Chola period and developed by the Pandyas and Nayakas. The mandapa next to the temple is taken for the study. The monument and mandapa are constructed out of pink granite that is available in Pudhukottai region. It has the Chola style stage with the mandapa of Nayakas style and a decorative front porch in the chariot form. Major damages found in this mandapa are structural cracks due to settlement. Recommendations were made to repair the structural cracks using the ?stone stitching method?. This technique is studied using miniature samples obtained from the same quarry, which were prepared and tested in the laboratory. They were stitched using steel bars in the normal and inclined to the crack direction. The stitched miniature samples were tested under flexure and shear loading conditions. The test results showed that the samples could carry the expected load. Further, as the embedment depth of the anchor bars increased, the load carrying capacity was found to increase.
