Abstract : Concrete is being used for construction since centuries. Today our surrounding is full of concrete. Entire world is wrapped in concrete. Concrete is second biggest substance used by mankind after water. Government of India has put lots of focus on infrastructure development. US$ 1 trillion is planned to be invested in infrastructure development during 12th plan. Housing sector is growing in double digit percentile. Every structure built needs maintenance. Any flaws during construction, needs to be repaired. Any modifications / improvements in existing structure need strengthening before additional load comes on it. The most popular method of strengthening structural elements (column, beam, RCC slab) is by jacketing or steel plating. Both of these methods increase the dead load on existing structure. There are many new techniques, products which can give similar performance of strengthening parameters at much reduced dead load. Some of them are carbon and glass fiber wrapping, light weight concrete, light weight polymer modified patch repair mortars, near surface mounted (NSM) steel reinforcement, etc. Each of these options shall be evaluated in totality before selecting one. Some of the products not only help in reducing the dead load but offers additional benefits like thermal / noise insulation, enhanced durability of structures, et
