Abstract : India has witnessed a tremendous change in the phase of construction especially in the materials used as building materials. Traditional materials like stones, bricks etc., started disappearing from construction sites due to the reasons well known. These materials are replaced by concrete blocks, fly ash bricks and other materials. Light weight structural concrete including fiber, foam concrete, hollow cement bricks, etc. however, available in the market but are not at affordable cost. All these materials are the derivatives of cement in one or the other form. In the present study emphasis has been given to produce a building material which has properties similar to that of light weight construction material available in the market. This particular product does not need cement as the binding material. Basically it consists of fly ash (class F), powdered lime (commercial grade)and a granular material available in plenty as a waste product from steel industry. Present study involves the analysis of materials, their proportioning and studies as per requirements of IS as a building material to replace traditional materials in the construction.
