Abstract : As much as 86% of the world’s energy consumption is from fossil fuels. For various reasons, nuclear power output is not expected to grow much in the near future. The worldwide share of renewable energy production is close to 7% with solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind as the only potential growth areas. Nevertheless, these two means of renewable energy remain very small. PV accounted for only 0.04 % of total energy production in 2008. It is clear that in the short term, the contribution of renewable energy in buildings will not significantly reduce the CO2 footprint
